Shiv Kapur shoots 63 to climb up to tied eighth

By Staff

Paris, Jun 28 (UNI) Shiv Kapur shot a blistering eight under 63 to climb from overnight tied 103rd to tied eighth at the Open de France Alstom (European Tour) here.

Jeev Milkha Singh (68, 74) was the next best Indian at even par 142. He slipped from overnight tied fifth to tied 28th after he returned three over 74.

The third Indian in the fray, Jyoti Randhawa (70,74) also dropped from overnight tied 28th to tied 50th while Indian Masters winner SSP Chowrasia (75, 79) missed the cut as he ended the tournament at tied 133rd place with a total of 12 over 154.

Kapur's total moved to four under 138 as a result of his second round blitz. He now trails the joint leaders, Spain's Pablo Larrazabal and Englishman David Lynn by three strokes.

Kapur came back strongly after firing a five over 75 in the first round. The Delhi golfer was in tremendous form yesterday as he made five consecutive birdies on the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth holes.

He followed this dream run with another birdie on the ninth.

Kapur's back nine began with a bogey on the 10th but he more than made up for that by sinking birdies on the 14th, 16th and 17th.

Nine birdies in the second round have brought Kapur into contention as the tournament enters the weekend.

Jeev's second round included a lone birdie on the ninth and bogeys on the first, seventh, 12th and 18th.

Jyoti's second round 74 was marked by two birdies, two bogeys and a triple bogey on the par four 13th. He managed to make the cut with a total of two over 144.
