Shiv raring to go after 3 days in bed, Ghei

By Staff

Shanghai, Apr 18 (UNI) Missing cuts is not Shiv Kapur's style but when he tees off at the Shanghai Pudong Golf Club for the BMW Asian Open tomorrow, he will be hoping spondylitis and food poisoning does not return to haunt him afetr pulling out at tied 34th at the Volvo China Open last week.

When he arrived at the Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club he was uncertain if he would be fit to play at the 2.3 million dollar event.

Among the other Indians, Gaurav Ghei will also look to do much better than the 55th finish at the Volvo China Open while S S P Chowrasia, Rahil Gangjee, Amandeep Johl will have to come up some good golf to avoid missing the cut as they did last week.

After spending three days in the bed and undergoing physiotherapy, Kapur's pain has eased now and he is ready to swing his club to lethal effect.

''It's been up and down season for me. I haven't had the finishes that I wanted to. I started nicely early in the year but it's been very inconsistent and I missed a couple of cuts which is uncharacteristic of my game,'' Kapur said.

He also thinks there is not too much wrong with his swings inspite of some mediocre finishes. ''I've been making some changes in my swing and you need to be patient with it but I've sort of gone back to my old thing. I want to get back to playing more rather than getting stuck with technical thoughts. I feel like my game is coming around.

''The game feels pretty good. I think I'm poised for a good finish sometime soon. But I'm more concerned with my health right now,''he said.

''I've got spondylitis to start with. It's happened to me before last year in Korea where I was in bed for four days. I had food poisoning last week as well which weakened my system and I believe I damaged some thing.

''It'll need some yoga to cure it. I'll take it easy this week. I could swing yesterday without any pain which is good. I spent three days laying in bed. The game feels good, maybe the three-day rest will do me go, I feel refreshed and raring to go.

He said his changing of the swing should not be attributed to his form. ''It's easy to blame my form due to my changing of the swing and most probably it is. It's not my nature to miss many cuts.

I'm a consistent player.

''The BMW Asian Open is a big one for us. It was unfortunate I couldn't finish last week but hopefully I can make amends this week.

I like this golf course, I played decently here last year. I like the way it sets up for me and it's good coming to a place where you have good vibes.

''The game feels good, maybe the three-day rest will do me go, I feel refreshed and raring to go,'' he added.
