Shooters raring to go at CYG

Pune, May 25 (UNI) Maharashtra shooters are raring to display their marksmanship skills at the third edition of the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games which will get underway at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports City, near here, in October.

''Shooting'' has been introduced for the first time in the CYG.

Indian boys Ruchit Kapadia, Minit Shah, Sailesh Khope, Rushad Damania along with the girls, Ayonika Paul, Neha Sapte, Rahi Sarnobat, Tejasvini Mulay, Ruchira Lavand and Shruti Patil are expected to give their best and garner medals.

Venue manager Hemant Jadhav, who has been nominated by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), informed reporters here today that the shooting competition will be held between October 13 to 15.

The events for the boys will include 10-mtr Air Rifle, 50-mtr Rifle prone, 50-mtr Rifle 3 positions, 10-mtr Air Pistol, 25-mtr Sports Pistol, 50-mtr Pistol, Trap, Double Trap and Skeet. The girls section will have 10-mtr Air Rifle, 50-mtr Rifle prone, 50-mtr Rifle 3 positions, 10-mtr Air Pistol, 25-mtr Air Pistol and 25-mtr Sports Pistol.

A total of 14 golds, 14 silvers and 14 bronze medals will be at stake in the three-day competition, Mr Jadhav said.

The NRAI has nominated Mr Li Hwan Kim of Korea as the technical delegate and Ms Sheila Kanungo as manager for Rifle and Pistol events, while Mr M Padmanabhan will be the manager for Shotgun events.

A total of 59 technical officials will be officiating in the 2008 CYG. As many as 44 officials will be from India and 15 from other Commonwealth countries.
