Singapore Masters winner donates entire prize money

Singapore, Mar 11 (UNI) After reeling off birdies galore for the past four days which saw him notching up his maiden European and Asian Tour title here today, Lian Wen-chong hit an ace when he decided to donate all his prize money -- whopping 183,000 dollars -- from just-concluded Singapore Masters to the development of golf in China.

''I hope to donate all my winnings this week to a golf foundation in China. I haven't decided where yet but I will donate all my prize winnings to the development of golf in China. I hope more of the young ones will pick up the sport,'' said the champion, who is only second Chinese after Zhang Lian-wei to record a success on the European Tour.

Liang pipped Malaysia's Iain Steel in a sudden-death play off at to win the 1.1 million dollar co-sanctioned event. It was a timely win for Liang who had come close to contention this season at the Philippine Open before his triumph this week.

''I am very happy. I have come close many times before and now, I finally won. This is a great result and a fantastic first half of the season for me,'' said Liang.
