Shooting: Skeet Shooters Maheshwari Chauhan and Naruka Target Podium Finish at Home ISSF World Cup Final

Skeet shooters Maheshwari Chauhan and Anantjeet Singh Naruka are set to compete in the ISSF World Cup final, aiming for a podium finish.

They narrowly missed a mixed team bronze at the Paris Olympic Games, losing by just one point to Chinese competitors. The event begins on Sunday, and both athletes are eager to perform well on home soil.

Maheshwari and Naruka Eye World Cup Medals

Naruka, who won a silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games last year, emphasised the importance of trusting the process. "The one thing I keep in mind is that I have to follow the process, take it step by step and slowly climb the ladder," he said. As a 26-year-old Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) shooter, he is confident about winning a medal this time.

Maheshwari expressed excitement about participating in her first World Cup final at home. She believes competing on familiar ground offers an advantage. "It's a great honour and my first World Cup final as well so I am very excited to be shooting with the best. There’s just one target this time – to be on the podium," she shared.

Reflecting on her experience at the Paris Olympics, Maheshwari noted its impact on her confidence and approach. "The Olympic Games was a great learning experience. It taught me more than anything to trust myself and my process. It strengthened my resolve to take my Olympic journey ahead with the lessons I learnt from Paris," she told SAI Media.

Naruka is determined to make his country proud and has been working hard to improve his technique. "It will be a good thing if I win a medal here. I want to make my country proud and I am pretty confident of clinching it this time," he stated. His focus remains on gradual progress and maintaining his form throughout the competition.

Both athletes are hopeful that their efforts will lead to success in the upcoming event. Their experiences from previous competitions have prepared them well for this challenge, and they are ready to showcase their skills against top international shooters.
