Somarani wins two bronze in Asian Weigtlifting Championship

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) Thongam Somarani Chanu won two bronze in women's 63 kg class at the 19th Asian Women's Weightlifting Championship in Tai'an city of China.

The Manipuri girl lifted 188kg to finish third overall besides her effort of 108 kg in clean and jerk fetching her another bronze.

The gold in the event was won by Shu Jie-an of China who lifted 268 kg (130+138) while Nguyen Thi Thiet of Vietnam pocketed the silver with a lift of 215 kg (95+120), according to information received here today.

Earlier in women's 58 kg class, Renu Bala had won two bronze in overall (204 kg) and in snatch (90 kg) categories.

India is making a return on international stage after serving a one-year ban following floundering of dope tests by its lifters.

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Geeta Rani is participating in women's +75 kg category.
