Sourav tableau in Kolkata for his Nag

By Staff

Kolkata, Nov 5 (UNI) A day before Sourav Ganguly's last Test begins at Nagpur, a mobile tableau was brought out by his fans today collecting signatures from people to cherish his illustrious cricketing career that began in the early 90s.

Before starting the first Test against Australia in Bangalore, Ganguly had announced his retirement after the current series, sending shock waves among his many followers and cricket buffs.

After being dropped in the Irani Trophy, speculation was rife about his selection in the Indian squad against Australia because of his poor performance the Sri Lanka tour.

But when his name was retained for the first two Tests against Australia by the new selection team, headed by K Srikkanth, Ganguly proved his selectors were not wrong at a time when critics were campaigning for induction of fresh blood into the Indian squad.

Many also believed that his ommission in the Irani Trophy prompted the former India captain to call quits.

The tableau will move from south Kolkata, home of the country's most successful captain, to farthest northern part of the city on a stretch about 25 kms and collect signature from the people, which will be presented to him when he arrived here.

''In fact I cannot believe that Dada would not play for the country after the Nagpur Test,'' a cricket buff said after signing the board.

Another group of fans visited temples to offer prayer for Ganguly success tomorrow.
