Sporting trounces JCT 2-0
Duler, Goa, Feb 23 (UNI) Sporting club de Goa humbled JCT 2-0 in the sixth round of the 11th Edition ONGC National Football league Championship match at Duler ground in North Goa.
Sporting goals came through Wilton Gomes in the 17th minutes and Nigerian Dudu Omaghbhemi in the injury time of the first half.
Sporting today registered their second win out of six outings and took their points tally to seven with two wins, one draw and three losses.
JCT remained on five points with one win, two draws and three defeats with equal number of matches.
In an evenly contested first half, Sporting had the slight edge over JCT and utilised the couple of chances before them into the goals and were leading by 2-0 at the breather.
Sporting shot into lead as early as in the 17th minute through Wilton Gomes, who after collecting a loose ball in the middle, unleashed a full blooded 30 yerder volley which found the net giving no chance to rival goalkeeper to make it 1-0.
The home team would have increased their lead in the 34th minute of the first half, had Joe Rodrigues 'header not missed the mark narrowly off a pass from Danzil Franco.
Sporting consolidated their lead in the injury time of the first half through their ace striker Dudu Omaghbhemi, whose perfect header found the net off a well measured pass sent by Denzil Franco.
The JCT, who also attacked fluently, came near scoring on number of occasion but faultered at crucial junctions. JCT were just not allowed to settle down, as their forward Edeh Chide was well marked by sporting defender Philip Gomes and was not allowed to penetrate.
The second half did not witness much of action. However JCT made some desperate attempts to reduce the margin but without much of luck.
Sporting Medio Wilton Gomes was later adjudged the man of the match for his fine performance.
