Sports Bulletin of November 3: From India's dismal Whitewash to Lionel Messi's defeat

A Sunday (November 3) which hasn't bore the best news for the cricket aficionados in India, as the Indian team suffered a horrific whitewash at the hands of New Zealand.

Apart from India's series defeat, there are many other incidents in the sports world which have culminated across the minds on Sunday. Here are the Ten unmissable stories from the World of Sports, curated for you.

1. India suffer first series whitewash at Home

India lost the 3rd Test in Mumbai by 25 runs and thus suffered a 3-0 defeat against New Zealand. This marks the first whitewash of the Indian team on home soil (a series of 3 or more matches), the first for them in 24 years across all venues. It has been a very disappointing few weeks for the Indian team and they will be hoping to bid a stronger comeback in the upcoming Australia series.

2. Rohit-Kohli fail miserably, Rishabh the lone warrior for India

The Indian batting gladiators, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both had a torrid outing in the series. Rohit and Kohli could only score 91 and 93 runs across the entire series, with both averaging less than 16. Rishabh Pant was India's sole warrior with the bat as the southpaw amassed 261 runs, with three fifties to his name. Apart from Rishabh, none of India's batters crossed 200 mark in the series, while Rachin Ravindra (256), Will Young (244) and Devon Conway (227) showcased excellent batting prowess.

3. Ajaz Patel scripts fairytale New Zealand Victory, Will Young Best in the Series

Ajaz Patel picked up 11 wickets and slayed the Indian batters to script New Zealand's biggest moment in their Test history. The Kiwis inflicted an unimaganible blow to the Indian team and Patel was awarded as the Player of the Match. Will Young, who was excellent throughout the series, was awarded Player of the Series.

4. India drop down to 2nd in WTC Points Table

After three consecutive defeats, India are down to 2nd place in the WTC points table. India now have a PCT of 58.3, which is not far away from Sri Lanka (55.56), New Zealand (54.5) and South Africa (54.17). Australia remain on top at the moment with a PCT of 62.5, who are also going to be India's next opponent in Tests. To qualify for the WTC final next year, Rohit Sharma and his men will have to win at least four matches in Australia.

5. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami suffer defeat

Lionel Messi played full 90 minutes but without any major impact as Inter Miami fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Atlanta United in the first leg of their MLS playoff match. Derrick Williams and Xande Silva scored the goals for Atlanta after Inter Miami's Hector Martinez gave them the lead. The 2nd leg of the playoff last 16 will be played on November 9.

6. Ishan Kishan in trouble as Umpires accuse India A of Ball Tampering

India A suffered a defeat in the first unofficial Test against Australia A, and amid that, Ishan Kishan is in trouble for dissent. The umpires also accused India A of ball tampering and in response to that, Kishan called it a 'stupid decision'. The umpires were bemused with Ishan's words and said that the India A player will be reported for him comments.

7. Ruben Amorim set for Manchester United debut

New head coach Ruben Amorim is set to take charge as Manchester United face Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday. The Portuguese arrived after Dutchman Erik ten Hag's departure and will be hoping for a sharp turn around. On Saturday, Arsenal and Man City both suffered defeats, while Liverpool managed a crucial win to go on top of the PL points table.

8. Rohit Sharma casts doubt over Australia series

India captain Rohit Sharma dropped a bombshell in his post-match interview saying he may not travel to Australia for the Test series. "Not sure whether I will be going, fingers crossed," Rohit said. If the India captain is absent, Jasprit Bumrah will step in as captain. The India captain also admitted their mistakes after the series defeat against New Zealand.

9. Hong Kong Sixes; Sri Lanka claim title beating Pakistan

Sri Lanka won the Hong Kong Sixes after beating Pakistan in the Final. Chasing a target of 73 runs, the Lankans secured a comfortable victory by 3 wickets. India, who participated in the tournament, made a sorry exit without a single victory in the entire tournament. The Indian team, led by Robin Uthappa, lost to Pakistan in the first match, and then lost against the likes of UAE and Oman as well as they finished last among the 12 teams.

10. India boxers return with 17 medals from U-19 World Championships

Parthavi Grewal, Vanshika Goswami and Hemant Sangwan secured Gold Medals to spearhead the Indian team with an excellent outing in the inaugural U-19 World Championships. India racked up a total of 17 medals in the tournament, ten of which were won by the female boxers.
