Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Rallies Behind BFI Chief Ajay Singh, Targets Indian Boxing Glory at LA 2028
New Delhi, Oct 30: Union Sports Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has reaffirmed the government's support for Boxing Federation of India (BFI) president Ajay Singh, expressing confidence in the progress of Indian boxing as the country sets its sights on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting attended by Singh and former World Boxing president Boris van der Vorst. He highlighted India's recent performances in international boxing and said the government expects results as the sport continues its preparations for the 2028 Olympics.

Van der Vorst shared details of the meeting in an Instagram post, describing it as an inspiring interaction. He said Mandaviya had expressed strong support for Singh, the BFI and Indian boxers, adding that the minister emphasised that the country's 1.4 billion people were behind the team.
According to Van der Vorst, the minister also acknowledged the progress made by Indian boxing in recent years and its emergence as a major force on the international stage. India's medal performances at the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games have strengthened expectations of Olympic success, he added.
However, Van der Vorst stressed that turning that potential into success at LA 2028 would require a collective effort from athletes, coaches, federations, the government and the wider boxing community.
He also quoted Mandaviya as urging the boxing fraternity to ensure that Indian boxers feel the support of the entire nation when they compete at the 2028 Games. "The future is full of possibilities. Now is the time to turn that potential into Olympic glory," Mandaviya said, as quoted by Van der Vorst.
The meeting comes as Indian boxing builds towards the LA 2028 Olympics, with the government and the national federation looking to translate the country's recent international performances into success on the biggest sporting stage.
