Osaka (Japan) Aug 31: Double world sprint champion Tyson Gay says he is unlikely to run any further 200 metres races for the rest of the 2007 season.
The American scorched to victory in the 200m final yesterday to become the third man to win both sprint titles at a world championships after Maurice Greene and Justin Gatlin.
The 24-year-old said he was exhausted after running eight races in six days in the energy-sapping Osaka heat and had not formed a detailed plan of his activity for the rest of the year.
''I'm going to take a rest for maybe a week or so and get together a schedule, but I am looking forward to coming back to Asia and running some 100s,'' he told a news conference today.
''I'm not really looking forward to running any 200s, it's just so long.'' Gay's next opportunity to run in Asia before the end of the year would be at the IAAF meeting in Shanghai on September. 28.
''I need to run some 100s to get some energy back, to get some focus,'' he said.
''I've still got some things I need to work on. I want to finish the year running some great times so I can into next year with a positive mind.'' IAAF president Lamine Diack was at the conference and paid his own tribute to the star of the championships so far.
''We are talking about needing heroes in our sport,'' said the Senegalese. ''I think Tyson can become one.''
