Squall wreaks havoc again at Eden today

Kolkata, May 18 (UNI) A severe squall with a wind speed of 100 kmph accompanied with rain tonight wreaked havoc in the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings DLF-IPL T20 match at the Eden Gardens, injuring at least two people and bringing the game to a halt.

The impact of the wind was so heavy that all the billboards besides, the tarpauline sheets and the pitch cover were literally blown away and the ground was littered with full of carry bags and plastics.

Cricket Association of Bengal president Prasun Mukherjee and pitch curator Kalyan Mitra got themselves entangled in a tarpauline and two persons sustained injuries when some heavy sheets blown away by the wind hit them hard.

Chennai Super Kings were 55 for no loss after eight overs with Stephen Fleming on 32 and Parthiv Patel on 19 when the match was stopped.

Kolkata Knight Riders were 46 for the loss of two wickets at this stage.

With the prospect of the match restarting at Eden bleak, Duckworth and Lewis method could be adhered to for deciding the fate of the match.

Yesterday also, Kings Eleven Punjab won the match against Delhi Daredevils through Duckworth and Lewis method.

A few days back, in the match between Riders and Royal Challengers of Bangalore, rain played the spoilsport and the match was truncated to 16 overs.
