Legendary Indian squash player Saurav Ghosal has expressed his elation following the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) decision to include squash in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
"This marks a monumental occasion for the global squash community," Ghosal claimed on the sidelines of the RuPay Prime Volleyball League (PVL) 2024 in Chennai.

A revered figure in Indian sports with three Commonwealth Games medals to his name, Ghosal acknowledged the years of persistent effort that culminated in squash's Olympic inclusion.
Expressing optimism for India's performance on the world's biggest sporting stage, the world number 18 stated, "The Indian squash team possesses the potential to deliver a stellar performance in LA. I have no doubt they will be thoroughly prepared to meet the challenge."
While attending the PVL 2024 match, Ghosal's focus extended beyond the confines of the court. He commended the league's contribution to fostering a pipeline of talented young Indian volleyball players.
He specifically highlighted the presence of renowned coaches like David Lee, Dragan Mihailovic, and Shailen Ramdoo, acknowledging their significant role in elevating the sport's overall calibre in India.
"The league is playing a critical role in popularising a sport that deserves far greater recognition, considering its inherent difficulty," Ghosal remarked, impressed by the league's commitment to promoting volleyball.
The 37-year-old believes the presence of such experienced international coaches provides a valuable learning opportunity for aspiring Indian players. Training alongside these legends equips them with invaluable insights and techniques, potentially propelling them towards international success.
Ghosal's optimism transcended the boundaries of his own sport. He cited the recent Asian Games as a testament to the league's positive impact. Players like Santosh, Guru Prashant, Ashwal Rai, and Vinit Kumar, who had previously shone in the league, went on to make their mark on the continental stage. According to Ghosal, this serves as a clear illustration of the league's ability to cultivate future stars.
"The Olympic Games represent the pinnacle of achievement in any sport," Ghosal asserted, acknowledging the ultimate objective for Indian volleyball. He expressed his fervent hope to witness an Indian volleyball team qualify for the Olympics in the foreseeable future.
With the strong foundation laid by the Volleyball League and the unwavering dedication of its athletes, that dream holds the potential to become a reality in the not-so-distant future.
