Sri Lankan Prabagaran crowned All India amateur golf champion
Coimbatore , Feb 18 (UNI) Sri Lankan K Prabagaran beat Noida-based Simarjeet Singh on the 35th hole to clinch the 106th Royal Challenge All India Amateur Golf Championship title at the par-72 Coimbatore Golf Club here today.
With this win, Prabagaran become the third Sri Lankan to win the prestigious championship.
Parabagaran got off to a flying start winning the first four holes with birdies to go 4-up. But, Simarjeet clawed back to square the score at the tenth hole and then went on to lead 3-up by the 14th hole. A sudden lapse of concentration saw Simarjeet missing a couple of easy par putts as he gifted the 15th and 16th to Prabagaran. Simarjeet went into the lemon break with a 1-0 advantage.
Prabagaran started the second session in style with a birdie on the 19th hole to level the score, which remained so till the 23rd hole. Prabagaran then clinched the 25th with a par and then birdied the 26th and 29th to make it 3-up.
Simarjeet, however pulled one back on the 30th but then bogeyed the 32nd to go 3-down. He won the 33rd with a par to reduce the margin but the next two holes were shared with pars as Prabagaran duly clinched the title with a 10 footer par putt.
