Stephen Curry Stars as Shaq’s OGs Claim First NBA All-Star Mini-Tournament Title

By Tanisha Chhabra

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game introduced an exciting new format featuring a four-team mini-tournament. In the end, Shaq’s OGs, led by Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, and Jayson Tatum, claimed victory by defeating Chuck’s Global Stars 41-25 in the championship game. Tatum sealed the win with a powerful dunk, while Curry’s impressive performance, which included four three-pointers and a deep half-court shot, earned him the Kobe Bryant All-Star Game MVP award. This made Curry the 15th player in NBA history to win multiple All-Star MVPs.

The tournament began with Chuck’s Global Stars facing Kenny’s Young Stars in the first semifinal. Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 12 points, the Global Stars secured a 41-32 win. Victor Wembanyama and Karl-Anthony Towns added six points each to the victory. On the opposing side, Darius Garland, Tyler Herro, and Evan Mobley each contributed six points, but their efforts weren’t enough to stop the Global Stars from advancing to the final.

In the second semifinal, Shaq’s OGs took on Candace’s Rising Stars, a team of first- and second-year players. Despite a competitive battle with multiple lead changes, the OGs pulled through with a 42-35 victory. Damian Lillard played a crucial role, scoring nine points, including the game-winning three-pointer. Curry added eight points, while Rising Stars’ Dalton Knecht and Ryan Dunn also scored eight points each. The OGs’ experience proved too much for the younger squad, setting up their showdown with Chuck’s Global Stars.

The championship game was a dominant performance by Shaq’s OGs from start to finish. Curry set the tone early with a three-pointer and later electrified the crowd with a deep half-court shot. Tatum led the team with 15 points, while Curry contributed 12 points and four rebounds. Despite Wembanyama’s strong effort of 11 points and three rebounds for the Global Stars, the OGs’ veteran presence secured them an easy victory.

While the new format brought excitement, the event’s presentation received mixed reviews. Many fans felt the focus on entertainment, long breaks, and excessive airtime for Kevin Hart overshadowed the game itself. Moving forward, fans hope future All-Star events will prioritize basketball over unnecessary distractions.
