Sub-Jr National Volleyball meet from Nov 27 in Jammu

By Staff

Jammu, Nov 25 (UNI) Around 26 states and Union Territories from across the country will be participating in a week-long 31st Sub-Junior National Volleyball Championship for Boys and Girls' to be held at Maulana Azad Stadium here from November 27 to December 3.

''It's an honour for the state association that the Volleyball Federation of India provided us an opportunity to host this prestigious championship,'' Raja Aijaz Ali, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Special Security Group and vice chairman, organising committee told reporters at a press conference here today.

''All adequate arrangements including security, health facilities, food and accommodation have been made for the participants as well as the officials besides better infrastructure,'' Ali said.

He, however, said, ''The J &K teams sweated hard prior to their participation in the championship. The previous record of the state has made us hopeful of winning the title.'' Meanwhile, Ali said the Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir in collaboration with the State Sports Council is making all efforts to promote volleyball in the rural areas as it is being played more in the outskirts than in urban parts of the state.

''The rural belt of Jammu region has a dearth of talent and volleyball being a rural sport, will be encouraged by the association and the hidden talent will be given chance to excel at state as well as national level,'' the IGP asserted.

However, president Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir, Raj Daluja said apart from championship events, special arrangements have also been made for the players, to visit the historical monuments and sight scenes during their stay in the 'City of Temples'.
