Sunderland's Michael Chopra goes in for rehab for wife's sake

By Staff

London, Aug 29 : Michael Chopra, 24, the English footballer currently playing for the Premier League side Sunderland, has decided to go into rehab for his wife's sake.

According to The Sun, Chopra, a player of both English and Indian descent, plays as a striker for Sutherland and was originally a product of the Newcastle United Youth system.

He is the son of an English mother and an Indian father, and now his decision to check into rehab is aimed at rescuing his marriage with childhood sweetheart Heather Swan, also 24.

Both split just a month after their May wedding.

Yesterday the player vowed: "I'll do anything to win back my wife."

Chopra is expected to stay a week at the Sporting Chance clinic in Hants to get help in relationship and anger issues.

The move came after the couple reportedly had to be pulled apart when they ran into each other at a bar in Newcastle.

Manager Roy Keane said yesterday: "He has everyone's full support."
