Phoenix Suns Edge Oklahoma City Thunder As Devin Booker Cultivates Belief With Last-Second 3

The Phoenix Suns believed they could beat the Oklahoma City Thunder and delivered, edging the Thunder 108-105 thanks to Devin Booker's last-second 3. Booker contributed 24 points, while Jordan Goodwin set career highs, and the Suns used their prior matchup as a benchmark to secure their sixth win in seven games.

Devin Booker buried a decisive 3-pointer with 0.7 seconds left, sealing a 108-105 Phoenix Suns victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder and completing a measure of revenge against the reigning NBA champions in a fiercely contested matchup on January 5, 2026.

The Suns had carried strong confidence into this rematch, using the prior clash as a reference point after Oklahoma City had handed Phoenix a 138-89 defeat in the NBA Cup quarterfinals on December 10, the heaviest loss in Suns franchise history.

Suns stun Thunder with Booker’s late 3

Booker finished with 24 points, nine assists and six rebounds, directing the Phoenix offence in key moments. Reserve guard Jordan Goodwin gave extra scoring, producing career-best figures of 26 points and eight made 3-pointers, helping Phoenix secure a sixth win across the last seven games.

Booker explained the mindset within the Phoenix locker room after the narrow win. "We'll take it," Booker said. "Obviously, they're [the Thunder] everybody's target. Those are the champs, and they are seasoned. They're a really good team, so that's who you want to match yourself up against. And we all believed in it."

The Thunder slipped to a sixth defeat of the campaign, with five losses arriving across the last 11 fixtures, halting a run that had included three straight wins as Oklahoma City continued a demanding part of the regular-season schedule against Western Conference opponents.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander posted 25 points on 8-of-22 shooting for Oklahoma City, but the Thunder fell short of a fourth consecutive win. Assessing Phoenix, Gilgeous-Alexander said: "They play hard. They play together," said Gilgeous-Alexander. "In this league, when you play hard and play together every night, you give yourself a chance. And then you add the talent and the personnelthey're a good team."

The result underlined Phoenix’s progress since the heavy December defeat, with Booker setting the tone and Goodwin delivering key support, while Oklahoma City continued a recent dip in form that still leaves the Thunder among the league’s leading teams this season.
