Late drama in Los Angeles highlighted a busy NBA night, as Wendell Carter Jr. hit a decisive putback for the Orlando Magic against the Los Angeles Lakers, while the Charlotte Hornets extended their road surge in Chicago and the Cleveland Cavaliers used a dominant third quarter to pull level with the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference standings.
The Magic closed a strong West Coast stretch with a 110-109 win over the Lakers, sealed when Wendell Carter Jr. scored on a follow-up with 6.7 seconds left. LeBron James had a chance to answer but missed a fallaway 3-point attempt on the final possession of a homestand that left Los Angeles with a 4-4 record.

Paolo Banchero powered Orlando with 36 points, while Desmond Bane contributed 22. Carter added 20 points and 12 rebounds, giving the Magic a strong interior presence. That effort completed a run of three wins from four games on the road after the All-Star break, lifting Orlando to six victories in the last eight outings.
{TABLE_1}The Magic have now defeated the Lakers four times in a row, and this latest result moved Orlando within half a game of sixth place in the Eastern Conference. For Los Angeles, James and Deandre Ayton each scored 21 points, while Austin Reaves produced all 18 of his points after half-time, but the Lakers have dropped four of their previous six games.
In Chicago, the Charlotte Hornets continued their impressive form away from home with a 131-99 victory over the struggling Bulls, marking a franchise-best eighth consecutive road win. Brandon Miller led Charlotte with 23 points, Kon Knueppel followed with 21, while LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges each finished with 16 points for the visitors.
Charlotte’s offence relied heavily on perimeter shooting, hitting 51.6% from the field and converting 25 of 57 3-point attempts, falling just one make short of the team record. The Hornets overwhelmed Chicago 42-16 in the third quarter, using a decisive 22-2 stretch to take full control and leaving the Bulls with a 10th straight defeat.
For Chicago, Matas Buzelis delivered a personal-best 32 points, but the Bulls were undone by 19 turnovers. Knueppel stayed efficient from long distance, hitting three of six 3-point attempts to bring the season total to 201. Playing in just his 58th game, Knueppel became the fastest player to reach 200 made 3-pointers.
The Cleveland Cavaliers strengthened their position near the top of the Eastern Conference with a 109-94 win over the New York Knicks, breaking clear after half-time. Donovan Mitchell scored 23 points, James Harden provided 20, and Jarrett Allen delivered 19 points with 10 rebounds as Cleveland secured an eighth victory in the last nine games.
Cleveland led 60-54 at the interval before tightening defensively in the third quarter. The Cavaliers outscored New York 23-11 during that stretch and limited the Knicks to just 3-of-24 shooting from the field in the period, turning a close contest into a comfortable advantage that New York never seriously threatened in the final quarter.
Jalen Brunson paced New York with 20 points and Mikal Bridges added 18, while Mitchell Robinson collected 15 rebounds, finishing one short of a season high. However, the Knicks managed only 40.7% shooting overall, and Bridges, Brunson and OG Anunoby combined to go 14-for-45, including 10 missed 3-point attempts each from distance.
The Knicks struggled badly from beyond the arc, converting just 10 of 37 attempts, while the Cavaliers used their defensive pressure to keep control. Both Cleveland and New York now hold 37-22 records and share third place in the Eastern Conference, but the Knicks retain the head-to-head tiebreaker after winning two of the three season meetings.
Across the league, these NBA results tightened races in both conferences, with Orlando closing on the East’s top six, Cleveland maintaining momentum despite the tiebreaker situation, and Charlotte sustaining a strong road sequence, while Chicago and the Lakers continue to search for solutions against stronger opposition.
