Wrestler Sushil Kumar bags gold at World C'ships

By Nitsi
New Delhi, Sep 13: Wrestler Sushil Kumar has created history as he became the first Indian wrestler to win a gold medal in the World Wrestling Championships on Sunday, Sep 12 in Moscow.

The Haryana wrestler, Sushil was one of the only two Indians to win an Olympic medal at Beijing Games in 2008. The second victory came after defeating Russia"s Gogaev Alan 3-1 in the final of the 66kg freestyle event.

“I am very happy with this win and this is bigger than my win at the Beijing Olympics," an ecstatic Sushil said soon after his historic triumph.

This success brought Sushil to establish himself as a firm favourite to clinch a gold in the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

After getting a bye in the first round, he beat Akritidis of Greece, Martin Sebastian of Germany and Buyan Jav of Mongolia en route to the final.

All other Indian contenders had crashed out before the finals in the championship.
