Sushil Kumar disappointed for not being awarded the Padma Bhushan

New Delhi, Jan 29: The usually humble and silent wrestler Sushil Kumar is miffed with the system that confers awards.

On Tuesday, two-time Olympic medallist Kumar showed his displeasure and lashed out at the decision makers for being denied the Padma Bhushan, something that he feels that he deserves.

In an interview to Headlines Today, Kumar said that he deserved the Padma Bhushan. "I am the only double Olympic medalist in the country. I can't understand the reason that I did not get the Padma Bhushan. There should be some criteria for getting such an award.

Leander Paes and Gopichand derserved the award as they are senior to me. Though I do not pay much attaention to such things, the government should have taken into account performance and achievement along with seniority," he told the TV channel.

The wrestler won a bronze medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics and a silver in the 2012 London Olympics.

His contemporary boxer Vijender Singh has expressed his surprise that Sushil Kumar didn't get the Padma Bhushan.
