New Delhi, Oct 15: Wrestler Sushil Kumar, India's Gold prospect at the upcoming Asian Games, is likely to give the Nov 2010 event in China a miss due to a shoulder injury.
Sushil is mulling withdrawal from Asiad to recover fully from niggles that surfaced after world championships before the Oct 3-14 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
“The worlds is a very tough competition and immediately after, I started preparing for Delhi. I didn"t end up getting much recovery time. I need to do this because I have to be fully fit for next season, which includes Olympic qualifiers," Sushil Kumar said earlier announcing the pull out.
However, according to the latest reports, the grappler has said that he is still unsure of his decision.
If he decides to drop out, Sushil Kumar will be replaced by Pardeep Kumar in the 66kg category event in Guangzhou.
Sushil has had a golden year. After clinching Asian, World championships, the wrestler completed a hat-trick run by grabbing gold on home turf at the Commonwealth Games 2010.
“Peaking thrice in a year and giving the best in all tournaments is really a tough ask. We want to give Sushil some time to rest. The Olympic qualifiers are more important for us, keeping in mind the London Olympics," said a coach.
