Sushil Kumar cheers Tihar inmates at inter-jail games

New Delhi, Feb 2 (PTI) World champion wrestler SushilKumar today visited the Tihar Jail prisoners to motivate andcheer them for the inter-jail winter volleyball championshipbeing held here.

Tihar Jail organises inter-jail games every year duringwinters.

The games first took place in 1992-93 at the initiativeof India''s first woman police officer Kiran Bedi, who wasDeputy Inspector General (DIG) of the jail at that time, tobring reforms in the prison.

"We organise Tihar Olympics every year during winters,wherein we invite sports personalities to come and witness theevent on the concluding day.

"This year Sushil Kumar came over to encourage theparticipating prisoners," Sunil Gupta, spokesperson of TiharJail said.

The volleyball championship was held between inmates ofjail number two and three. A total of 30 prisonersparticipated in the event.

In the past, cricketers like Virender Sehwag and MuraliKartik had visited the jail to motivate the prisoners who tookpart in the cricket match held inside the prison premises.

"We invite famous spokespersons so that they can promoteteam spirit, discipline as well as harmony among the inmates,"he said.
