Kolkata, March 23: Sushmita Singha Roy at one point of time was India's one of the most promising heptathlon athletes.

She made India proud with her stunning show in the 2005 Incheon Asian Championship as well as 2007 Asian Championship in Amman.

With her personal score in the event, 6027 points, Susmita Singha Roy from Midnapore district in Bengal, was dreaming of participating at the Rio Olympics 2016.

Sushmita's last international meet was Asian Games at Incheon in 2014. By that time the ace athlete had been stricken by the severe injury in her left knee and as its aftermath, Susmita also had undergone a surgery.

That was in 2012. But the tragic part of her story is that the injury in her left knee has not yet cured even in last five years!

Sushmita did not want to say, but she guesses that doctor and his medical staff might have operated in some other place on the knee!

She has not left training. She still goes to Kolkata's Sports Authority of India (SAI) track and trains every day.

But she cannot train for more than one hour at a stretch. A depressed Susmita, now aged 32, said: “I get tired even if I try to extend the time of training one day.

"Pain starts in my knee, on the same place where the operation was made. I also went to my surgeon and conveyed the message to the doctor that the sharpness of pain was almost same even after the operation. His advice was that it would take some time to get cured."

The ace athlete seems almost sure that she will not be able to return to the international competition, even in the national level championships.

Still, she continues training with a hope that she will be able to take part again in at least state level championships in future if the pain is reduced completely.

But at the same time, Susmita has started nurturing another dream. That is to produce athletes of future.

On that, She said: “I will start coaching after a couple of years and produce such an athlete who will fulfil my dream by earning a medal in the tournaments like Asian Games and Olympics."
