Symonds' booze binge continues

Brisbane, Mar.24 (ANI): Out of favour Australian cricket all rounder Andrew Symonds alcohol-related woes continue.

On Sunday, he was kicked out of a Brisbane bar. The Daily Telegraph can reveal that, five days earlier, Symonds had to be woken by his Queensland team-mates after a bender so he could make his flight home from the Sheffield Shield final in Melbourne.

Symonds, 33, appears to have learnt little from being stood down by Cricket Australia in January when told to seek counselling for his off-field behaviour.

While Australia were being crushed by the Proteas in the Cape Town Test, Symonds and some of his Queensland team-mates were being told to leave the Watt bar at New Farm, in inner Brisbane, about 9 p.m. because they had drunk too much.

Symonds had accidentally broken a glass and was stumbling. Bar patrons said Symonds and his team-mates complied with bouncers when asked to leave and did not cause trouble.

It's another blight on a dreadful summer for Symonds, who has gone from being one of the world's most exciting players to a man cricket bosses don't want in the national team as he struggles on and off the field.

They may never let him back after the latest incidents, which will seriously jeopardise his chances of a new national contract.

Cricket Australia would not comment on the incident yesterday except to say that Symonds' counselling was continuing and that they were awaiting a report on the rehabilitation process. (ANI)
