Symonds career not at risk due to knee injury flare up

By Super Admin

Melbourne, Feb 18 (ANI): Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds has been assured that his career is not at risk with a knee injury, which flared again last week.

Symonds visited a Melbourne specialist after spending long periods off the field during Queensland's Sheffield Shield loss to South Australia in Adelaide.

There were fears that Symonds could need further surgery to the right knee he that had been surgically repaired on New Year's Eve after Australia's MCG Test loss to South Africa, FOX Sports reported.

However, Symonds was a relieved man when he was given a bright prognosis, indicating that he could even be available for the Bulls for Sunday's Ford Ranger Cup final.

"Andrew has pinched inflamed tissue in the joint of his right knee. We expect him to recover quickly. If the speed of his recovery continues, he may be available for selection in the Ford Ranger Cup final this Sunday," Cricket Australia doctor Trefor James said.

Pain in the knee is the last thing Symonds needed as he tries to convince national selectors that he should be recalled for Australia's one-day series against Pakistan in April. (ANI)
