Taekwondo: Rupa Bayor Wins Bronze at Australian Open WT G2 2025, Strengthens World No. 8 Ranking

New Delhi, Sep 11: India’s rising taekwondo star Rupa Bayor added another milestone to her impressive career, securing a bronze medal in the Female Individual Recognised Poomsae (18–30 years) category at the Australian Open WT G2 International Taekwondo Championship 2025, held in Gold Coast, Australia.

This marks Rupa’s third consecutive medal at the Australian Open, reinforcing her position as one of India’s most consistent and accomplished taekwondo athletes.

She registered commanding victories over competitors from Chinese Taipei, Australia, and the United States before narrowly missing out in a close semifinal against Hong Kong.

Reflecting on her campaign, Rupa said: “I have had a very good journey at the Australia Open. I got to play matches with great players and gained high-level exposure and great experiences.”

Born in Arunachal Pradesh, Rupa trains at the Indo-Korean Taekwondo Academy in Navi Mumbai under Coach Abhishek Dubey and has emerged as one of India’s most influential poomsae athletes.

A Trailblazer for Indian Taekwondo

Rupa’s career is marked by groundbreaking achievements that have redefined India’s presence in global taekwondo:

• Gold at the 2023 World Taekwondo President’s Cup Europe (Istanbul) — first Indian to win gold in a WT Grade 2 Senior 1 Poomsae event.
• Bronze at the 8th Asian Taekwondo Poomsae Championships (Vietnam) — India’s first-ever senior-level medal in the recognised poomsae category.
• Broke into the World Top 10 in 2024, rising to World No. 8 — a historic first for India.
• Bronze medal at the World Taekwondo President’s Cup in Austria (November 2025).

Her excellence earned her induction into the Target Asian Games Group (TAGG) scheme in April 2025, marking her as a top medal hopeful for India.

Focused on Asian Games 2026 and World Championships
