Asian Games gold medalist and national record holder Tajinderpal Singh Toor will compete at the ongoing Inter-State Athletics Championships in Panchkula, his coach Parvir confirmed.

"Tajinder Pal Singh will participate in men’s shot put. He arrived today in Panchkula. In Patiala, he practised and attempted a few throws, which gave us confidence," Tajinderpal's coach exclusively told myKhel.
The Asian Championships medalist was suffering from ankle pain and was told by his doctor not to throw for three to four weeks. "Yes, he suffered an injury on June 3 and decided not to compete, but he’s fit and raring to go at the Inter-State Athletics," his coach added.
Toor is poised to qualify for the Paris Games via the world ranking quota. He holds the titles of reigning Asian champion and Asian Games gold medalist. This will be his third outdoor competition this season and his best throw so far is 20.38 which he achieved at the Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar.
Toor has faced injury challenges over the past few years. He underwent surgery on his left wrist, the wrist of his throwing arm, shortly after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. He sustained a groin injury while securing gold at the Asian Championships in Bangkok in July 2023, which caused him to withdraw from the World Championships in Budapest the following month.
Toor did not meet the automatic qualifying standard of 21.50m for the Paris Olympics between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024. Although he threw 21.77m on June 19, 2023, it was before the Olympic qualification cycle started.
This season he has not been able to breach the 21m mark. The men's Shot Put qualification at the Inter-State Athletics Championships will start today, and the final will take place tomorrow.
