"Taking The Long Run" – Dhinidhi Desinghu On Record, And The Road Ahead

India's rising swimming sensation, Dhinidhi Desinghu, made an electrifying start at the 38th National Games 2025, clinching three gold medals on the opening day and rewriting the national record in the Women's 200m Freestyle.

The 14-year-old from Karnataka, who was India's youngest athlete at the Paris 2024 Olympics, showcased her dominance in the pool with a remarkable display of speed and endurance. She shattered her previous national record of 2:04.24, clocking an impressive 2:03.24 to claim gold in the 200m Freestyle.

She followed it up with a victory in the Women's 100m Butterfly, leading a Karnataka 1-2 finish alongside Naisha Shetty. To top off her golden streak, she played a crucial role in Karnataka's triumph in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Dhinidhi's performance further cements her reputation as one of India's most promising swimming talents. She was already a standout at the 2023 National Games in Goa, where she bagged seven gold medals, and she is now on track to surpass that achievement.

Reflecting on her record-breaking feat, Dhinidhi expressed her joy:
"I'm feeling really happy and excited to have won the medal with a national record. All the hard work over the past years has paid off."

As she looks ahead, she remains focused on continuous improvement rather than specific targets. "I'm taking the long run. I just hope to become a much better athlete. My coach will decide my competitions," she shared.

With multiple events still to come, including mixed relays Dhinidhi is set to add more medals to her tally. Her journey is a testament to talent, dedication, and the promise of a bright future in Indian swimming.
