Tanvi overcomes scane before downing Mansi

Pune, Aug 10 (UNI) Fourth seeded Tanvi Laplikar overcame a scane by unseeded Manasi Munji before romping home in an epic struggle at 11-6,7-11,6-11,9-11,11-9,11-6,11-4 and made the last four stage of the sub-junior girls singles in the Le Meridien trophy district ranking table tennis championship, hosted by the Deccan Gymkhana club here today.

Tanvi, who was trailing 1-3, however, bounced back to claim the next three games in a row deploying top spin drives on both the flanks to garner points. Manasi, who showed tremendou grit, however, bowed out of the competition.

Earlier top seed Devika Bhide out played unseeded Madhura Phutane 12-10,11-8,11-7,11-5 and also moved into the semi-finals. Also joining the winners were second seeded Sruja Bhat and third seeded Prachi Ghumatkar. Bhat put it across Sneha Tale 11-4,11-4,13-11,11-9 while Prachi got the better off Shrungari Pawle 11-0,11-5,11-7,11-4.

Devika Bhide, who is also top seed in the Cadet girls (under-12) singles has set up a title clash against second seeded Manasi Munj.

Bhide thus lined herself for a double crown. In the semi-finals, Bhide brushed aside Shweta Khatavkar in straight games 11-6,11-3,11-4 while Manasi had some consolation by getting the better of Neha Godse in a tight match at 7-11,11-7,11-9,6-11,12-10 in the other semi-final tie.
