Bangalore, May 17: National 'A' and former State champion Tej Kumar (FIDE rating 2324) survived opening blues and settled for a draw with 22nd seed Susharata Reddy in the third round of the Malleswaram Association 2nd Karnataka State Chess Championship held under the aegis of United Karnataka Chess Association here at MA premises on Wednesday.
In the game that was transposed from Center Counter to Sicilian Defence - Morra Gambit, Shushrata (1981) called the shots with sharp variations. However, seasoned campaigner Tej Kumar held on his nerves to manage a draw in 59 moves.
