Tejas Shirse sets a new National Record in men’s 110m hurdles during a World Athletics Continental Tour (Challenger level) meeting in Jyvaskyla, Finland on Wednesday.
He finished the final in 13.41 seconds, surpassing Siddhanth Thingalaya's 2017 National Record of 13.48 seconds. Shirse's achievement awaits the standard ratification process.

However, the entry standard in men’s 110m hurdles for Paris Olympics is 13.27s. This was his third competition in 2024, having participated in the Harry Schulting Games (13.56) and the B&S Kurpfalz Gala Weinheim (13.60). He has been one of the most consistent performers domestically over the last two years, and this performance will help him move up in the road to the Paris 2024 rankings as well.
On the other hand, Jyothi Yarraji equalled her own National Record in the women's 100m hurdles with a time of 12.78 seconds, securing first place but narrowly missing out on automatic qualification for the Paris Olympics by just one-hundredth of a second.
New sprint sensation Animesh Kujur had a new personal best in 100m, finishing second in 10.39s. Amlan Borgohain stood fourth, clocking his Season’s Best timing of 10.54s. The Paris Olympics entry standard for men’s 100m is 10.00s.
2023 Asian Games silver medalist Mohammed Afsal won men’s 800m event in 1:48.91s, much below his Personal Best of 1:46.17s. Pavana Nagaraj, an 18-year-old long jumper, finished fifth with a best effort of 6.06m.
In the recently concluded Federation Cup in Bhubaneswar, Mohammed Afsal finished third with a timing of 1:50.44, while Ankesh Chaudhary took the gold medal with a timing of 1:50.16. This was Afsal's fourth competition in 2024 participating in the 800m.
