Terry impressed with Rooney's leadership skills

London, Nov.16 (ANI): England football skipper John Terry has said that he is very impressed with the leadership skills of star striker Wayne Rooney, and is already touting him as a possible long-term successor to himself in the role.

Terry was impressed with the way Rooney adapted to the captaincy role.

"Wayne has been different class, he has really matured as a player. We have spoken about that for a few years now and he fully deserved it. He has been brilliant, he was good in the dressing room beforehand and it was good to see," The Sun quoted Terry as saying about Rooney's role as skipper during a friendly against Brazil in Doha on Saturday.

"I want the captaincy back, but long term I think Wayne is a possible candidate to be captain, I really do. He has got so much experience. He was probably the most capped player in the squad. He has a lot of experience on young shoulders," Terry added.

Terry insists the long trip to Qatar was a worthwhile exercise even with an injury-ravaged squad.

He said: "It was a good chance for us to come away and see what we are up against coming into the World Cup.

"We went to Germany 12 months ago with a young side as well and I think we proved a little point there and showed our strength in depth. We've seen here as well a couple of players who are really pushing." (ANI)
