The Jupiter Marathon Thane'24, a philanthropic endeavor by Jupiter Hospital, will once again unite runners and fitness fanatics from all over the city to participate for a purpose.
This year, the marathon is set to generate funds for Paediatric Heart Treatments, uniting the elite of Thane, medical professionals, and school students in a race to help keep little hearts healthy and robust.

Scheduled for January 7, 2024, the marathon will feature three different race distances - 5k, 10km, and 21 km. Participants can secure their spots through various ticketing platforms.
The event, which starts at 6 AM from Raymond Gate, Pokhran No. 2, is backed by the Thane District Athletic Association, along with other supporters. Upwards of 6,000 participants are projected to enroll in the event, the funds from which will be utilized to assist children requiring paediatric heart treatments.
Dr. Ashutosh Singh, a Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon at Jupiter Hospital and an enthusiastic marathon runner, stated that the Jupiter Marathon Thane is unique in its exclusive focus on children's heart health.
According to Dr. Singh, the marathon will raise awareness about heart diseases in children, specifically congenital heart disease (CHD). Additionally, this year's marathon will aid in generating funds for children who require medical treatments and surgeries for their heart conditions.
Dr. Singh pointed out that structural heart defects present in children from birth fall under CHD. In India, the incidence rate of CHD is around 8 to 10 per 1,000 live births.
He cited financial constraints as the primary hindrance for many families in successfully treating CHDs or other paediatric heart diseases. The marathon offers an opportunity for those who care for children to unite and contribute to their heart health.
The marathon's organizing team consists of medical practitioners who are veteran marathoners themselves. They have meticulously planned the route, track, and even refreshments for the event. The marathon will also feature medical and first aid facilities at regular intervals. The event has a range of other entertainment and programs planned as part of the marathon.
Dr. Srinivas L, Paediatric Cardiologist at Jupiter Hospital, emphasized the importance of early intervention and screening to aid children with CHDs and other paediatric heart diseases.
He pointed to the variable prevalence of CHD across different regions within a state, highlighting the need for early screening and intervention. According to a study, CHD is responsible for 10% of current infant mortality in India, a figure that can be reduced through early screening of such conditions, added Dr. Srinivas.
He expressed that the marathon aims to increase awareness about paediatric heart diseases and help provide children with top-tier medical expertise at a reasonable cost. The event will also witness eager participation from students of leading schools in Thane, encouraging them to lead an active lifestyle.
The Jupiter Marathon Thane'24 is more than just a race. It's a concerted effort towards combating heart diseases in children through awareness, early intervention, and fund generation for treatment. It is a testament to the power of collective action, where every step taken brings us closer to a healthier future for our children.
