Thiagarajan to lead India in Karate Championship from Oct 18

Chennai, Oct 13 (UNI) Former Deputy Mayor of Chennai Corporation and Chairman of All India Karate-Do Federation (AIKF), ''Karate'' R Thiagarajan would lead a 25-member Indian team for the World Karate Championship to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from October 18 to 21.

Thiagarajan would be the Chief-de-Mission, while P R Ramesh, General Secretary, the Chief Delegate, Sensei Vispy Kapadia from Maharastra, the coach and Sensei Bharat Sharma from Delhi, the Team manager, a Federation release here said.

Nearly 100 countries are expected to take part in the Championship and the Indian contingent, which was selected here on September eight, included seven Karate fighters from Tamil Nadu, Mr Thiagarajan said.

The Indian team would leave for Istanbul from Mumbai on October 17, he added.
