NBA Western Conference Finals: Thunder Hold Off Spurs To Take 3-2 Series Lead
Oklahoma City moved to the brink of another NBA Finals trip, beating the San Antonio Spurs 127-114 in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals. The Oklahoma City Thunder now lead the series 3-2 and are one victory from facing the New York Knicks.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander guided the Oklahoma City offence with 32 points and nine assists, while Alex Caruso delivered 22 points as a reserve. Jared McCain added 20 points after entering the starting lineup, helping cover for injured teammates Jalen Williams and Ajay Mitchell.

The opening 19 minutes stayed tight, with both sides trading baskets and small leads. Oklahoma City then broke the game open with a 29-12 surge that stretched across halftime. That run built a cushion that reached 20 points during the third quarter.
San Antonio mounted a late push and cut the Oklahoma City advantage to 107-99 with seven minutes left. Oklahoma City answered immediately, as McCain drilled two 3-pointers and Caruso added another from deep. That sequence restored a double-digit gap and effectively settled Game 5.
Gilgeous-Alexander responded after a quiet Game 4, yet the back-to-back MVP again lacked usual efficiency. Gilgeous-Alexander shot 7-of-19 from the field and turned the ball over six times. However, Gilgeous-Alexander repeatedly drew fouls and converted 16 of 17 free throws.
Frontcourt play also swung toward Oklahoma City in this matchup. Isaiah Hartenstein, who struggled earlier in the series, produced 12 points and 15 rebounds in 31 minutes, including six offensive boards. Chet Holmgren contributed another double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, reinforcing the interior dominance.

San Antonio’s attack spread across several players but lacked outside accuracy from Victor Wembanyama. Wembanyama finished with 20 points yet went 4-of-15 from the floor and missed all five 3-point attempts. Stephon Castle paced the Spurs with 24 points, while Julian Champagnie supplied 22 points and eight rebounds.
The defending NBA champions now travel to San Antonio for Game 6 on Thursday night holding a 3-2 edge. The Spurs must win at home to extend the Western Conference finals and create a decisive Game 7, while Oklahoma City can close the series and secure another meeting with the New York Knicks.
