Tickets for the Indian Grand Prix 'moderately priced'

By Biswajeet Panda
New Delhi, April 26: Now there is some cheer for the average Indian Formula One fans who wish to attend the first ever Indian Grand Prix as the tickets are set to have lowered-than expected price. The event is scheduled to be held from October 28, 2011 and will be a three day affair.

Speaking to reporters on April 22, 2011, Sameer Gaur, Managing Director and CEO of Jaypee Sports International Limited (JPSI), said, "We are in the final stages of deciding the pricing of tickets for the Indian Grand prix. We want to involve as many people as possible, not just from Delhi/NCR but other parts too. The tickets will be moderately priced."

He added, "The sale of tickets is likely to commence in a month's time. At this time, I can only say that the lowest denomination of the tickets would be approx Rs 2,500 for the weekend. The price of the grandstand ticket will be around Rs 30,000-35,000."

In yet another welcome move, Gaur also informed that the organisers will consider giving discounted tickets to students in the stadium that has a capacity of nearly 120,000.

The organisers have also assured that the facility for the event named as the Buddh International Circuit will be up in time.

Speaking about the preparedness for the event, Manoj Gaur said, "We are prepared because our reputation is at stake. Our country's reputation is at stake. The track is already complete and stadium is getting ready. The homolagation (approval by the FIA) will be done in July. Hopefully, we can celebrate the Independence Day here."

The 5.14 km race track is being developed by Herman Tilke, the German architect and is estimated to cost around $400 million to the organisers.
