Tiger Woods Breaks Silence After DUI Arrest, Masters Participation in Doubt
Golf legend Tiger Woods has broken his silence following his recent DUI arrest in Florida, confirming that he will step away from competition to seek treatment after a car crash near his home.
The 50-year-old golfer issued a statement on social media on Tuesday, hours after pleading not guilty to charges linked to the incident. Woods acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and said he would prioritise his health and recovery.

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," Woods said in his statement.
"I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritise my well-being and work toward lasting recovery."
He added: "I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support, and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."
What happened in the Tiger Woods crash
Woods was arrested on Friday afternoon after his vehicle overturned in a crash near his residence in Jupiter Island, Florida.
According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, Woods attempted to overtake a flatbed truck at a high rate of speed before being forced to swerve due to oncoming traffic. His vehicle struck the truck during the manoeuvre, resulting in the crash.
Authorities confirmed that Woods was not injured in the incident. However, officers noted signs of impairment at the scene.
Officials said a breath test did not detect alcohol in his system, but Woods appeared to be affected by medication or another substance. He was subsequently charged with driving under the influence with property damage and refusing to submit to a lawful test.
Masters participation now uncertain
The incident comes just days before The Masters, scheduled to begin on April 9, casting doubt over Woods' participation in the prestigious tournament.
Woods had only recently returned to competition following a long injury layoff and appeared at the TGL Finals in late March. His latest setback raises fresh concerns about his availability for upcoming events.
The PGA Tour released a statement expressing support for Woods following the incident, emphasising concern for his well-being.
"Tiger Woods is a legend of our sport whose impact extends far beyond his achievements on the course," the PGA Tour said.
"But above all else, Tiger is a person, and our focus is on his health and well-being. Tiger continues to have our full support as he takes this important step."
Injury struggles continue to shape comeback journey
Woods' latest setback comes after years of battling injuries that have repeatedly interrupted his return to competitive golf.
In 2021, he suffered severe injuries in a major car crash in California that required multiple surgeries and extensive rehabilitation. More recently, he underwent lumbar disk replacement surgery and surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon in 2025.
Reflecting on his recovery journey earlier, Woods admitted that physical challenges have made his return to elite golf increasingly difficult.
"I've been trying. Just this body doesn't recover like it did when it was 24 or 25," Woods said previously.
With legal proceedings ongoing and treatment now planned, Woods' immediate focus appears to be on recovery, while his short-term future in professional golf remains uncertain.
