Tiger Woods Remains Hopeful for Competitive Event in India Amid Hero World Challenge Excitement

Golfer Tiger Woods remains hopeful about participating in a competitive event in India, a goal he has yet to achieve despite being Hero's Global Partner for a decade.

Meanwhile, Pawan Munjal, a close associate of Woods, is delighted to extend their partnership with the Hero World Challenge until 2030. This collaboration also continues with Woods as their global partner for the same duration.

Woods Optimistic About India Golf Event

Munjal expressed his joy at including three players of Indian origin—Sahith Theegala, Akshay Bhatia, and Aaron Rai—in the Hero World Challenge. "If you remember, we had Anirban Lahiri at one time here, which was a great thing to happen. He was in the top-30 then. To have three boys of Indian origin in a field of the best and top-20 is a huge, huge thing for India," Munjal stated.

Hero World Challenge and Indian Representation

The tournament, featuring 20 top golfers globally, begins on Thursday. Munjal noted the significance of having players of Indian descent in such a prestigious event. "Me and many of you have been looking for an Indian star on the golfing map to really grow the game in India. I'm sure even if they're not Indians but they are of Indian origin, I'm sure the whole nation is going to be very, very excited and very proud about this fact," he added.

Theegala ranks 12th globally, Rai is 21st, and Bhatia stands at 31st. All participants are within the world's top 40 rankings. The presence of these players highlights India's growing influence in international golf.

Partnership Extension and Future Prospects

Discussing the extended partnership with Hero World Challenge, Munjal remarked on their successful decade-long journey. "It was easy. We've had, as I said, 10 years of an incredible journey together which has benefited both of us, the foundation, Hero's brand globally. There were no two thoughts about it," he explained.

Woods echoed this sentiment: "Well, this is exciting news for all of us at the foundation to be able to have Hero MotoCorp who have supported us here for the last 10 years and to have this relationship and our partnership continue until 2030 is truly amazing."

Tiger Woods' Current Status

Woods has often used the Hero World Challenge as a fitness test before new seasons. However, he admitted his current physical condition isn't ready for competition. "Yeah, I am disappointed. I'm not physically ready yet to compete at this level," Woods confessed.

Despite these challenges, Woods remains eager to return to competitive golf. "The fire still burns to compete. The difference is the recovery of the body to do it is not what it used to be," he shared.

PGA Tour Developments

Regarding the PGA Tour's situation with Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund backing LIV series, Woods commented on the slow progress. "I think all of us who have been a part of this process would have thought it would have happened quicker than this," he said.

He acknowledged ongoing efforts despite delays: "Even if we had gotten a deal done by now, it's still in the DOJ's hands... But things are very fluid, we're still working through it."

The Hero World Challenge will take place from December 5 to 8 and features world No.1 Scottie Scheffler as its leader. Scheffler is also the FedEx champion and two-time Masters winner (2022 and 2024), defending his title here.
