Tiger Woods has decided not to participate in the Genesis Invitational this week, a tournament he hosts. This decision comes as he continues to cope with the passing of his mother, Kultida. Her death was announced on 4 February, and Woods has expressed that he is not yet ready to return to competitive golf.
Woods last competed officially at The Open in Royal Troon last July, where he missed the cut for the third consecutive major. He shared on social media, "I planned to tee it up this week, but I'm just not ready. I did my best to prepare, knowing it's what my mom would have wanted, but I'm still processing her loss. Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my mom's passing."

The Genesis Invitational has been relocated from its traditional venue at Riviera Country Club to San Diego due to wildfires in Los Angeles. The tournament is set to commence this Thursday. Jake Knapp will replace Woods in the lineup; Knapp secured his first PGA Tour victory at last year's Mexico Open.
Woods' absence from regular play traces back to a severe car accident in February 2021, which resulted in significant injuries. He underwent additional surgery on his lower back in September last year. Since then, Woods has participated alongside his son Charlie at the PNC Championship and appeared twice in the TGL tournament, an indoor golf league he co-founded.
Despite these challenges, Woods remains hopeful about returning soon. He mentioned possibly attending Torrey Pines later this week and expressed gratitude for the support received during this difficult time.
The golfing community continues to support Woods as he navigates these personal and professional challenges. His fans eagerly await his return whenever he feels prepared.
