Timberwolves Eliminate Lakers In NBA Playoffs; Rockets Force Game 6 Against Warriors

The Minnesota Timberwolves eliminated the Los Angeles Lakers with a 103-96 victory, while the Houston Rockets avoided elimination by defeating the Golden State Warriors. Both teams showcased strong performances in their respective playoff matches.

The Minnesota Timberwolves secured a spot in the next NBA playoff round by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers 103-96 in Game 5 of their first-round series. Rudy Gobert was instrumental, achieving playoff career highs with 27 points and 24 rebounds. Julius Randle contributed 23 points, while Anthony Edwards added 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Wolves.

Despite reconfiguring their roster midseason with a trade for Luka Doncic, the Lakers were eliminated in the first round for the second consecutive postseason. Doncic scored 28 points and provided nine assists, while LeBron James added 22 points. Rui Hachimura also made a significant contribution with 23 points.

Timberwolves Advance; Rockets Stay Alive in Playoffs

Minnesota's success came despite struggling from beyond the arc, hitting only seven of their 47 three-point attempts. They missed 17 consecutive threes between the second quarter and Mike Conley's crucial shot with just over a minute left. The Wolves capitalised on superior late-game execution to clinch narrow victories at home.

Gobert's performance was pivotal as he dominated inside against a Lakers team that opted for a small-ball lineup without a center. His scoring in Game 5 surpassed his combined total from the previous four games of the series. The Timberwolves maintained a slim lead as the Lakers faltered, missing five straight shots during a critical stretch.

The Houston Rockets extended their playoff series by defeating the Golden State Warriors 131-116 in Game 5. Fred VanVleet led with 26 points, while Amen Thompson added 25. The Rockets' victory forces Game 6 in San Francisco on Friday, with Golden State leading the series 3-2.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr conceded early as Houston built an insurmountable lead. A layup by VanVleet pushed Houston ahead by nearly thirty points midway through the third quarter, prompting Kerr to clear his bench. Houston coach Ime Udoka did likewise but reinstated starters when Golden State narrowed the gap.

Dillon Brooks scored 24 points as all five Houston starters reached double figures. A late-game altercation saw Pat Spencer ejected after headbutting Alperen Sengun following a push on Brooks. Houston responded with a decisive run to seal their win.

The Rockets delivered their best performance of this postseason after losing both games in California. They established an early lead and maintained it throughout, despite Stephen Curry's efforts for Golden State. Curry managed only four of twelve shots for thirteen points after previously scoring over thirty twice in this series.
