"To nail Cook down as my successor would be wrong": Strauss

By Super Admin

London, Mar 28(ANI): England skipper Andrew Strauss has dismissed claims that stand-in captain Alastair Cook has been rubber-stamped as his successor.

In Strauss' absence, Cook led England to whitewash over Bangladesh. The 32-year-old Strauss had opted to miss the tour of Bangladesh to be fresh for this winter's Ashes.

"I don't think it's inevitable he will take over. It would be wrong to look at it that way. No one knows how long I'm going to go on and what the state of the England team will be like when I finish," The News of The World quoted Strauss, as saying. To nail Alastair down as my successor would be wrong. He is one of the guys we have identified as having the potential to do the job. He's enhanced his standing to a certain extent, although his standing has always been high in the team," he added.trauss further said he was impressed by Cook's leadership, but insists he still has plenty to prove.

"I know he's benefited from doing the job. He seemed to be in control and didn't allow it to affect his batting. But I still think I've got a good stint ahead. I've got no plans to give up," e added. (ANI)
