Chennai, July 31: Top 22 cueists, including Former National Champion Siddarth Rao and Busan Asian Games Gold Medallist Rafath Habib, would vie for honours in the first MCC-S A Faheem Memorial Prize Money Invitation Snooker Tournament beginning here tomorrow.
Talking to reporters here last night, TNBSA President M C Manoj and MCC Vice-President Manikavasagam said the players would be divided into four groups and the top two from each group would qualify for the knock-out quarterfinals. The finals would be held on August seven.
The matches in the league phase would be best of five games.
The quarterfinals would be of best of seven frames, semifinals best of nine and the final best of 11 frames, spread over two sesions.
Mr S A Saleem, brother of late cueist S A Faheem, said the tournament would be an annual event and it would be bigger from next year with highest prize money and big field.
Apart from winners and runner-up purse of Rs 10,000 and Rs 6,000, the seven-day event offers a cash award of Rs 10,000 for the first century break and Rs 5,000 for successive century breaks.
Among others who would be seen in action include, Prem Prakash and Antim Singhi of Railways.
R B Ganesh, Rajmohan, Vijayakumar and Bhaskar would be the referees for the tournament.
