Top musclemen for Maharashtra Shree meet

Pune, Apr 4 (UNI) Top musclemen from across the State will be vying for honours in the ''Maharashtra Shree 2008'' best physique competition being hosted by the Navtej Foundation in association with Body Temple Gymnasium at the Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruh here tomorrow.

The competition is being held under the aegis of the Pune District Body Building Association (PDBBA) and the Maharashtra Body Building Association (MBBA).

MBBA honorary secretary Viki Goraksh and PDBBA secretary Sharadchandra Marne told reporters that about 100 musclemen from 22 affiliated districts will be vying for honours in the competition which has on offer Rs 1.75 lakh as prize money.

MBBA president Mr Madhukar Talvalkar has decided to present Rs 51,000 to the winner of the ''Maharashtra Shree'' title from this year onwards.

The championship will be held in seven weight categories -- 55 kg, 60 kg, 65 kg, 70 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg and above 80 kg. The overall title winner will receive Rs 51,000 in cash plus a trophy. The first five winners will also receive cash awards and merit certificates.

The competition assumes importance as it will serve the basis to select the Maharashtra team to participate in the national body building championship for the ''Mr India'' contest. The national championship will be held either at Goa or Mumbai from June 7 to 9, MBBA honorary secretary Chetan Pathare, who is also the secretary of the Indian Body Building Federation (IBBF), informed.

A six-member India team will also participate in the World Body Building Championship to be held in Florida in June, Mr Pathare disclosed.
