Top-seeded Bryan brothers upset in New York

NEW YORK, Sep 4 (Reuters) Top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan suffered a surprise defeat at the US Open when they were beaten 7-5 6-4 in the quarter-finals by 10th seeds Simon Aspelin and Julian Knowle.

The world number one American pair looked strangely listless as they slumped to defeat in an hour and 34 minutes yesterday.

Swede Aspelin and Austrian Knowle will meet the unseeded French pairing of Nicolas Mahut and Julien Benneteau in the semi-finals.

The Bryans won their only U.S. Open title together in 2005.
