Top sportspersons pledge their support to Malhotra

New Delhi, Nov 11 (UNI) Top sportspersons including captain of the 1975 hockey World cup team Ajit Pal Singh, former Asian badminton champion Dinesh Khanna and cricketer Chetan Chauhan today pledged their support to BJP's chief ministerial candiate Vijay Kumar Malhotra saying he was the best bet for the National capital.

Describing Prof Malhotra as man of the hour to lead Delhi to successfully host 2010 Commonwealth Games, the eminent sportspersons appealed the people to support and elect him and his party to power.

''Successful conduct of the 2010 Games will bring credit not only to Delhi but whole of India,'' said Chetan Chauhan adding ''Prof Malhotra is the man who has the vision and wisdom for achieving that.'' Ajit Pal Singh was of the view that sheer track record of Prof Malhotra as a sports administrator is ''awesome'' and deserves every sportsperson's support.

Dinesh Khanna said he was confident that under Prof Malhotra's leadership, Delhi will host best ever Commomnwealth Games.

''He (Prof Malhotra) has experience for the job and he also knows the pulse of the people,'' Khanna said.

Former Hind Kesari Wrestler Chandgi Ram recalled Prof Malhotra's contribution in uplifting wrestling in the capital and the country.

Asian Games gold medal winner Kamaljeet Sandhu, Table tennis veterans Manjit Dua, Indu Puri, Archers Limba Ram, Satya Dev Prasad all extended their solid support to Prof Malhotra saying that due to his selfless services, the sports like Table tennis, Archery, Wrestling, Kabbadi and Boxing got the boost in the capital and the country.

Vice President of Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Trilochan Singh said Prof Malhotra has been involved with sports since late 60's and was the chef de mission of Indian contingent for the 1974 Asian Games and 1978 Commonwealth Games.

He urged the people to support Prof Malhotra so that sports get much needed boost in the capital.

Member of 1948 and 1952 Olympic Gold medal winning hockey team Cdr Nandy Singh said the development of sports and its infrastructure the capital needs visinory like Prof Malhotra.
