Tottenham send AC Milan out of the Champions League

By Biswajeet Panda
London, Mar 10: AC Milan have for the fourth straight time missed out on a quarter-final berth of the Champions Legaue as they were held back by a stout defensive display produced by English Club Tottenham. The English Premier League side moved into the quarter-finals with a 0-0 draw that shielded their 1-0 first round victory.

The match didn't quite live up to the hype generated about the clash of the Italian and the English club. Tottenham, billed as one of the most lethal attacking sides in the Champions League were far from impressive as the only time they lived up to that was when Rafael Van der Vaart shot one from well outside the Milan box.

Milan who knew that they had to shoot at least one into Tottenham's goal post to proceed into the Champions League quarter-finals fielded a attacking triumvirate of Alexandre Pato, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho to blaze past the inconsistent defence of the English Club.

Except for the initial jostle shown by the two sides, the remainder of the match was a damp squib where it seemed to appear that either sides probably lacked the zeal or had accepted the inevitability of the eventual result.
