Trescothick desperate to put on England jersey once again

London, Apr 11 (UNI) Fresh from a blistering innings of 256 in county cricket, England opener Marcus Trescothick said he is ''desperate'' to wear the national jersey once again , but would not make the mistake of rushing himself back before he is completely ready.

The 31-year-old left-handed opener conceded that watching his team-mates in action during the Caribbean World Cup has been hard for him but will not rush himself until he is certain about withstanding the rigours of a winter tour.

''Of course I am desperate to play for England again, but it wouldn't be fair to anyone if I attempted to do so again without being doubly certain that I could complete an overseas tour, as well take part in games over here,'' Trescothick told the Somerset website.

''I just wish I was there in the World Cup. I believe I will play for England again, but only when the time is right for all concerned,'' he added.

Trescothick has been out of the team due to a stress-related illness, which saw him miss the Ashes tour and later the ICC Champions Trophy in India and the World Cup.

Michael Vaughan's side have so far struggled in the Caribbean without their most consistent ODI batsman, who have till date scored 4335 runs in 123 matches at an average of 37.37.
