Trescothick undergoes surgery;eyes comeback before county season

London, Mar 8 (UNI) Marcus Trescothick faces a race to be fit in time for the county season after the England opener, sidelined due to a stress-related illness since the beginning of the Ashes late last year, underwent a double hernia operation.

Stakes are high for Trescothick as the Somerset player will look to revive his international career which looked to be over after a string of sub-standard performances and nagging injuries besides, at times, a troubled personal life.

Trescothick is targeting Somerset's opening Liverpool Victoria County Championship match against Middlesex at Taunton, starting on April 18, as his comeback game.

Meanwhile, another Ashes absentee, fast bowler Simon Jones, will make his latest injury comeback when Glamorgan open their County Championship campaign next month.

The reverse swing exponent missed the Ashes tour and is out of this month's World Cup after surgery on his injured knee last June.
