Trials for Asian Judo Championship held in Patiala
Patiala, Mar 31 (UNI) The National open Judo trials for boys and girls were held here today at the NIS.
83 boys and 33 girls attended the trials in seven weight categories each.
The trials were held to select the Indian team for senior Asian Judo Championship for men and women in Kuwait from May 12-17.
About 30 teams are expected to take part in the Championship.
This will be a good platform for Indian Judokas to garner points in order to qualify for next year's Olympic Games in Beijing.
Though 30 boys and 27 girls have been selected for the camp which begins at the NIS from April 2, the final team for Kuwait is yet to be announced.
A six-member Indian team had participated in the Doha Asian Games last year, but failed to win a single medal. However, two Indian Judakas, Bembem Devi and Divya, won bronze medals in the International Judo Federation A grade tournament in Khazakistan in this month.
